about

In the early 00s there was a live music and club night held on Thursday nights at Bath's legendary Moles Club called 'Purr'. The Purr nights gave Bath early gigs by the likes of Art Brut, Gossip and Long Blondes, before they became famous.

In addition to these nights, they also launched their own record label and released a bunch of 7-inch singles and albums by a diverse array of new bands including Welsh noise makers Sammo Hung and cult Californian electro-rap-punks Gravy Train!!!! (signed to Kill Rock Stars in the US) who toured with the likes of Le Tigre and Bratmobile.

Purr Records also produced two highly limited Christmas releases - the 'Here Comes Santa Paws' EP in 2001 followed by the compilation album 'Gold, Frankincense and Purr' in 2002. These limited CDs have been long out of print for many years, so their compiler, Christmas music enthusiast Gareth Jones, has decided to make these recordings available once again on bandcamp. Here you will find the 14-track album followed by the EP (tracks 15-18).

Most of the bands featured here no longer exist and are no longer contactable, so we have not sought their permission to make these recordings available again. But given the fact they offered their songs to us on the original CDs, we do hope they will be happy to see them resurface in 2018!
